2022 Nissan Altima vs 2022 Kia K5

2022 Nissan Altima vs 2022 Kia K5

Not everyone is the pickup truck or SUV type, but there are sedans out there that are still fantastic options for both everyday use and the occasional road trip. The Nissan Altima and Kia K5 are the two that come to mind as they're both expertly designed for such an audience. Your friends at Maus Nissan of Brooksville  will give you the rundown to help you choose between the two.

2022 Nissan Altima vs 2022 Kia K5

Both of these sedans are the optimal size for every trip. Not too big, not too small, and with enough power and maneuverability to handle any drive. Although it's a close race, the 2022 Kia K5 may fall short in comparison to the 2022 Nissan Altima.

This year, Nissan is excited to introduce the world's first Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo) engine in the Altima. What makes this engine different? With literally 20 years in the making, this turbo engine has an adapting stroke ratio to optimize power and efficiency on demand. In the company's own words, "It raises or lowers its pistons' reach seamlessly, variably and continuously, to provide an ideal balance of power and efficiency for every driving situation." In addition, the Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) has a wider than average gear ratio coverage and dynamic step shifting. Even if you don't know what any of this means, anyone is capable of feeling the difference once you take it on the road.

If that weren't enough, the 2022 Nissan Altima also comes with:

       Active Ride Control

       Intelligent Trace Control

       Hill Start Assist

       Added suspension reinforcements

       Available Intelligent AWD

On the other hand, the Kia K5 has a less-intuitive GT 2.5L Turbo engine with Traction-Enhancing AWD that's similar to Nissan's Intelligent AWD. But compared to the Altima, the K5 doesn't have nearly as many drive-enhancing features. Also, the K5's miles per gallon ratings range from 24/32 to 27/37 which both fall short of the Altima.

 Safety Features

Safety Shield 360 comes standard in most Nissan models including the Altima. As far as crash ratings go, the Altima also earned a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS. However, this sedan has much more in store. For available features, you can opt-in for Intelligent Around View which supplies you with a 360-degree camera or ProPILOT Assist which helps keep you in your lane as well as maintain a safe distance from the car ahead of you while automatically applying the brakes if necessary. As an added bonus, the Altima also comes with Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Intelligent Lane Intervention which are enhanced versions of a couple of the most reliable safety features.

While the Kia K5 is lacking in intuitive safety features like the Altima, it comes standard with Kia Drive Wise which is the brand's own collection of preventative assist aids.

Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection

       Rear Automatic Braking

       Blind Spot Warning

       Rear Cross Traffic Alert

       Lane Departure Warning

       High Beam Assist

Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve with Highway Driving Assist

       Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist

       Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance

       Junction Turning Accident Avoidance

       Parking Distance Warning-Forward

While the 2022 Nissan Altima is a wonderful display of power, the interior is an ideal take on luxury. Available features like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control with rear vents make every drive a relaxing and comfortable one for everyone involved. If you and a partner are frequently taking turns driving, there's a Memory Seat System that can store two drivers' seatings and mirror positions for ease of use. But perhaps one of the most impressive Nissan-exclusive features is the Advanced Drive-Assist Display which can be customized to your personal driving priorities like driving aids, traffic sign recognition, and intelligent driver alertness. You can start your engine and adjust the cabin temperature straight from your key FOB and you'll never forget cargo in the backseat again thanks to Rear Door Alert.

You can find some similar features in the Kia K5, but not all of them. The K5 is lacking an intuitive driver display that's on par with the Advanced Drive Assist and it doesn't have anything to match the Rear Door Alert. And while the Altima is able to accommodate everyone in the vehicle, the K5 is designed to be driver-centric.

Bottom Line

When it comes down to it, the 2022 Nissan Altima and 2022 Kia K5 closely resemble each other in many ways. However, the Altima has a more dynamic driving experience, additional safety features, and luxurious cockpit that benefits everyone. This is why we'll choose the Altima any day!
