2023 Nissan Armada vs 2023 Ford Expedition
No one wants to struggle during what's supposed to be a fun and exciting journey. That's why every bit of assistance helps, and it turns out that the 2023 Nissan Armada comes with loads of help so you can focus on the fun stuff. The Expedition is still capable, as Ford is known for, but it doesn't have nearly as much to offer.
Performance
The new 2023 Nissan Armada comes with a monster 5.6L Endurance V8 engine at 400 horsepower. As the name suggests, this powertrain is beefier than what comes in your typical SUV. It can easily tow up to 8,500 pounds when in tow-haul mode, and it comes standard with an auto-leveling suspension which helps you keep your stability even on bumpy roads so you don't lose your precious cargo. The Armada is also built with a body-on-frame composition to bring you strength and stiffness, so every drive feels like a breeze. For an even more adaptable drive, you can use the Intelligent 4x4 system for intuitive and automatic adjustments as you go.
The new Expedition also has a maximum of 400 horsepower, but it comes with a less impressive powertrain consisting of a 3.5L EcoBoost engine. This means that, despite having a higher towing capacity of 9,300 pounds, you'll likely have a harder time getting around. There's an available 4x4 system, but it doesn't feel as fluid as the Armada's Intelligent 4x4.
Safety Features
With Nissan, it almost seems as though there's no limit to the number of driver-assist features that you can utilize to promote a much safer drive. For the Armada in particular, every model comes with 16 standard safety features which is well over what comes in a typical base model for many SUVs. These standard technologies include a mix of Nissan Safety Shield 360 and Nissan Intelligent features. On top of that, trailer sway control is available for you to use right on the center dashboard for instant assistance in activating trailer brakes and maintaining directional stability.
Standard Safety Features In the 2023 Nissan Armada |
● Intelligent Cruise Control ● Intelligent Driver Alertness ● Lane Departure Warning ● Intelligent Lane Intervention ● Intelligent Forward Collision Warning ● Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection ● Blind Spot Warning ● Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention ● Rear Cross Traffic Alert ● RearView Monitor ● Front and Rear Sonar System ● Rear Automatic Braking ● High Beam Assist ● Hill start assist ● Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System ● Active Brake Limited Slip |
Ford has their own selection of standard safety features for the Expedition, but it's nowhere near as extensive as the Armada. The new 2023 Ford Expedition comes with rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a 360 camera, Electronic Stability Control, Lane-Centering Assist, Traction Control, and Hill Start Assist. That may seem like a decent handful of features, but it feels rather basic in comparison to the Armada.
Interior
If you know you're going to be in the vehicle for a while, maximum comfort and entertainment value are essential. The Armada is equipped to keep everyone happy with heated and ventilated seats with the option to go with leather, and there's a Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control system so no row gets too hot or too cold. And because everyone has their own favorite media, there's no need to argue thanks to the Tri-Zone Entertainment System with separate screens for the rear installed directly into the back of the front headrests. Music buffs can also enjoy a special treat with the Bose 13-speaker audio system with the available Bose AudioPilot which automatically adjusts the volume of your tunes depending on any background noises that might interfere.
Perhaps the most jarring thing about the Ford Expedition's cabin is the portrait-oriented infotainment screen which may feel impractical and can be difficult to get used to. You can get a B&O sound system, but the sound quality of Bose is hard to beat. The Expedition also has a dual-headrest entertainment system for the back row, but the screens are located so high up that it's not as comfortable to view for long periods of time, especially for smaller children.
Bottom Line
Many people consider the Nissan Armada the perfect family vehicle, and we can see why with how the brand went all-out with the seating and entertainment, not to mention the powertrain and safety features. The Ford Expedition will definitely get you to where you need to go, but compared to the 2023 Armada, there's plenty of room for improvement.
