2024 Nissan Z vs 2024 Ford Mustang

Many people go with a Mustang just because it’s a Mustang, but if you look closely at what you’re actually getting with these cars, you might start to wonder if it lives up to the price. When you go with the new Nissan Z, there’s no question that you’re getting an exceptional car. If you loathe buyer’s remorse as much as we do, take a moment to learn why we highly recommend the Nissan Z over the Mustang.

Performance

Achieving an immense amount of horsepower in the Nissan Z is an easy task, regardless of which trim you choose. The standard 3.0L Turbo engine brings you up to 400 HP and 350 lb-ft of torque, but the Nismo Z offers up to 420 HP with 384 lb-ft of torque. Both options are fully capable of giving you an exciting driving experience, especially with the Nissan touch consisting of Launch Control and SynchroRev Match which regulates your power and acceleration. Even the build quality reflects supreme work on the designer’s part with a double-wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, mechanical limited-slip differential, and Akebono performance brakes. Enlightened drivers who choose the Nissan Z also have the choice between a 9-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

The “mighty” Ford Mustang comes standard with a 2.3L EcoBoost turbo engine ranging between 315 and 350 horsepower which doesn’t really boast the level of performance you would expect from such a popular ride. There’s an available 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine that ranges from 480-500 horsepower, but you’ll be shocked to see the doubled cost of these higher-tiered models. The new Mustang might come with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission system, but Nissan still offers greater driving technology (and more attention to build quality) in the Z.

Safety Features

As far as your safety goes, you have everything that you need in the new Nissan Z. Automatic Emergency Braking is a must, and this model comes with Pedestrian Detection for added support. Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Warning heighten awareness of the areas you can’t normally reach with your eyes. But other than the usual tech that you find in most newer vehicles, Nissan added a bit extra to the Z’s lineup:

  • Intelligent Cruise Control
  • Intelligent Forward Collision Warning
  • Intelligent Driver Alertness
  • RearView Monitor

Rather than being included with the Mustang’s total cost, Ford Co-Pilo360 is still an available package that you need to pay extra for. We should also note that many of the Mustang’s safety features feel rather redundant, like the Lane-Keeping System, Lane-Keeping Alert, and Lane-Keeping Aid being a great example. There’s also Intelligent Speed Assist and Predictive Speed Assist. What we like about Nissan is that everything about their vehicles is easy and intuitive for the driver’s sake. When things get overly complicated, it’s hard to tell if each feature is even worth listing.

Interior

The new Nissan Z is just as attractive inside as it is on the outside. RECARO leather-appointed seats in the Nismo model feel like a luxury upgrade, and the GT-R-inspired steering wheel is a nice touch that also serves as a constant reminder of the roots that brought the Nissan Z to life. But the Z isn’t just about looks. This incredible ride is also very functional, with a sliding center armrest and dedicated phone holder with conveniently placed USB ports. For serious drivers, the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster includes 3 distinct settings that display the information that you want to prioritize. There’s so much more to enjoy that you’ll just have to see in person as we move on back to the Mustang.

When it comes to the new Mustang, much of the excitement comes from the higher-tiered engine (if you even go with the upgraded model). A step inside the cabin will prove to you that there’s not as much to behold. Some leather accents here and there, available heated seating, and dual-zone climate control are about all there is to this popular sports car.

Bottom Line

Before you go straight for the Mustang this year, check out the new Nissan Z for yourself to see just how much better it is in person. We just know that you’ll appreciate the specially engineered drive quality and unique interior layout!
