2023 NISSAN ARMADA VS 2023 GMC YUKON

As a couple of already well-known SUVs, the Armada and Yukon are easily a couple of models that people are eager to run through mud, dirt, snow, and nearly any other kind of terrain. But how can you achieve the most power without overpaying? The answer lies in the new 2023 Nissan Armada.

Performance

Nissan equipped the 2023 Armada with a unique 5.6L Endurance V8 engine that can support up to 400 horsepower with a fair starting price of around $50,700. We say that this price range is fair because of the max towing capacity of 8,500 pounds and trailering features like an auto-leveling suspension, trailer sway control, and a Tow-Haul mode complete with Downhill Speed Control. So on top of having the ability to lug around heavy gear, the Armada will also help keep things balanced and safe. Trailering aside, the Armada also has an Intelligent 4×4, active brake limited slip, hill start assist, and plenty of ground clearance. Can the new Yukon top that?

The 5.3L V8 standard engine in the 2023 Yukon is only capable of achieving 355 horsepower which can be rather disappointing in comparison to the Armada. You can upgrade to an available 6.2L V8 engine for the Yukon thus bringing you up to 420 horsepower, but at the cost of your hard-earned savings with a much higher starting price of around $72,600. At that point, you need to ask yourself if spending an extra $20k is worth having more horsepower, and the answer is often “no”. Of course, there are plenty of other aspects that factor into the higher price, but even with the inclusion of more add-ons, the Armada still blew us out of the water at a more affordable price that we’ll get into in just a bit.

Safety Features

One of the best things about the new Armada is that every single version at every trim level comes with 16 standard safety and driver-assist features. This is a big deal since many new vehicles nowadays only have enough standard features to be counted on a single hand. On top of what comes in the Nissan Safety Shield 360 package, you can deck out your Armada to include newer features that aren’t so common. This includes “Intelligent” versions of your favorite features like Cruise Control, Blind Spot Intervention, Forward Collision Warning, Driver Alertness, and much more. On the other hand, the 2023 GMC Yukon barely comes standard with around 6 notable safety and driver assist features including Lane Change Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Rear Park Assist. You can find nearly all of these features in practically any new vehicle on the market right now, which makes the Yukon feel less than special in this category.

Interior

When we say that the new Armada is a great value, we’re talking about more than just the powertrain. The cabin has plenty more to offer like luxurious and accommodating seating arrangements, state-of-the-art entertainment, and an easily controllable indoor climate. You can get leather-appointed seats for the first and second rows with the option of including captain’s chairs for the rear. Heated and ventilated seating keeps everyone comfortable, and a power-folding third row makes it easy to adapt depending on the number of individuals along for the ride. The Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control system allows you to focus your attention on other things, like the 12.3-inch infotainment center that lets you control your music to play over the 13-speaker Bose audio system. Available Bose AudioPilot actively adjusts your music in response to distracting background noises. Plus, 92.6 cubic feet of maximum cargo space almost sounds too unreal to be true.

For the price, you might be expecting the Yukon to be even more extravagant inside. But compared to the Armada, the Yukon’s cabin feels like it’s missing a lot of features. It has a Tri-Zone Climate Control system and heated seating like the Armada, but the Yukon’s infotainment screen is much smaller at 10.2 inches along with a Bose speaker system that doesn’t offer Bose AudioPilot capability. Some may be drawn to the Rear-Seat Media System with screens behind the front headrests for those who are sitting in the second row, but the screens feel as though they were thrown in as an afterthought whereas the screens in the Armada are actually built into the headrest for a seamless and more aesthetically-pleasing look.

Bottom Line

If you want your money’s worth and an exceptional ride, the new 2023 Nissan Armada is definitely the way to go. With the 2023 GMC Yukon, you will most likely be paying more than you would the Armada and for an average experience in comparison.
